Arnold M. Nevala

U.S. Veteran

Arnold M. Nevala, age 75, of Ashland, WI, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland. He was born February 17, 1939 in Ashland, WI, the son of Eino and Martha (Anderson) Nevala.

Arnie graduated from Ashland High School in 1957. He was in the Army National Guard from 1958 to 1964, where he received his expert marksman achievement. On July 18, 1959 he married Katherine Ollanketo in Marengo, WI. Together they operated a crop and beef farm for many years. Arnie was an excellent machinist who worked for the C.G. Bretting Manufacturing Company in Ashland as a Plant Supervisor for over 53 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Arnie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed by many.

He is survived by his loving wife, Katherine of Ashland; his children: Donald (Bonnie) Nevala of Ashland, Jeff Nevala of Plover, WI, Curt (Brenda) Nevala of Ishpeming, MI, Sheri (Tony) Ledin of Ashland, Joe (Maria) Nevala of Ashland, and Lori (Jerry) Kyllonen of Marquette, MI; 13 grandchildren: Melanie, Josh, Travis, Miranda, Tasha, Melissa, Ryan, Andrew, David, Victoria, Garrett, Wyatt and Kaitlin; 9 great-grandchildren: Arianna, Lelend, Chloe, Victor, Neveah, Anastisia, Chessa, Tristin, and Jarod; a brother: James (Gloria) Nevala of Farmerville, Lousianna; two sisters: Kathleen "Nina" (Donald) Mattonen of Negaunee, MI, and Maria (Earl) Somero of New Ipswich, New Hampshire; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Nevala of Ashland; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant brother and brother, Martin Nevala.

The funeral service will be 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in North York, WI. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Roberts Funeral Home in Ashland and continue on Tuesday at 11:00 am at the church until the hour of service at 1:00 pm.
