Kenneth L. Ewer, age 79, of Washburn, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at St. Mary's Medical Center - Essentia Health, in Duluth, MN. He was born August 29, 1934, in St. Paul, MN, the son of Lawrence and Mary (Abbott) Ewer.
In 1953, he graduated from Ashland High School. From May of 1954 to 1974, he was in the US Navy and served on the USS Kearsage, USS Midway and the USS Ashtabula. On June 28, 1956, he married Mavis J Moore, in Ashland. He loved to hunt and fish. Ken even made his own fishing poles and other fishing and ice-fishing equipment.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mavis, Washburn; two children, Kelly (Pam) Ewer, Ashland and Janell (Robert) Weis, Ashland; six grandchildren, Samantha, Rusty, Cody, Haeli, Kimberlyn and Gage; four great-grandsons, Colin, Merek, Connor and Riley; a sister, Shirley (Ed) Huusko, Cornucopia; a brother, Lawrence (Barbara) Ewer, Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Forrest Ewer.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, February 14, 2014 at the United Presbyterian Congregational Church, in Ashland, with Dr. Darrel Robertson officiating
Spring interment will take place in Woodland Cemetery, in Washburn.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of service, on Friday, at the church. Frost Home for Funerals, in Ashland.
