Philip S. Johnson, age 58, died Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Northern Lights Health Care Center in Washburn. He was born September 28, 1955 in St. Paul, Minnesota the son of Reverend Curtis and Ruth Johnson.
Philip graduated from Central High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota and attended both St. Olaf and Augsburg Colleges. He was a kind caring person with a great sense of humor. He loved nature with an uncanny ability to identify both birds and animals in their natural settings. Philip fought courageously and creatively with severe mental illness for 40 years that finally cost him his life, due to kidney failure. He loved his family deeply, remembering them with his own unique gifts on their special occasions.
He is survived by his parents Curtis and Ruth of Northfield, Minnesota; brothers Carl of Brownstown, Michigan; Daniel (Shirley) of Crystal, Minnesota; Curtis Jr.(Lisa) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and sister Rebecca (Robert) of South Haven, Michigan; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the Community Support Staff of New Horizons who along with the Circle of Grace of Saron Lutheran Church and their supporters for being Philip's extended family in the Ashland community.
A celebration of Philip's life will take place at the Saron Lutheran Church in Ashland on Saturday October 12th at 11:00 A.M., with visitation from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. Pastors Paul Simmons and Dale Chesley presiding. Memorials for Philip's life may be given to Saron Lutheran Church, Circle of Grace; Ashland, Wisconsin 54806 or to a charity of the donors choice.
