Natalia “Nettie” Eugenia Gordon, 85 of Red Cliff, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 27, 1927 in the town of Gingles, the daughter of Charles and Helga “Mary” (Freeman) Haskins.
She was currently a member of Bayfield -Red Cliff VFW Post 8239 Auxiliary. She was a life-long housewife, mother and grandmother.
On April 19, 1945 she married Francis “Acorn” Gordon in Red Cliff. They have been lifelong residents of Red Cliff and where they were members of the St. Francis Catholic Church in Red Cliff. Nettie was a member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians. Her hobbies included doing crafts, playing the organ, baking especially her banana bread, carpentry, bird watching, gardening, doing word search puzzles, her family cookouts, and loved just spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Nettie is survived by children Daniel (Lou Ann) Gordon of Red Cliff, Judy (and the late Bill) McBurnie of Mechanicsburg, PA, Virginia (Dennis) Soulier of Red Cliff, Susan (Adam) Leask of Red Cliff, Nancy (Mick) Scribner of Ashland, Mary Kaye Gordon of Red Cliff, Patricia Gordon of Red Cliff, Bruce (Sarah) Gordon of Red Cliff, Florence (David) Boyd of Red Cliff, Dale Gordon of Red Cliff, John (Debbie) Gordon of Marshall, WI, Joseph (Pauline) Gordon of Red Cliff, Eugene (Rebecca) Gordon of Red Cliff, and Pamela (Vincent) Butterfield of Red Cliff; 46 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Nettie was preceded in death by her husband, Francis “Acorn” Gordon, Sr.; sons Francis Gordon, Jr., David Gordon, Michael Gordon, and Dale Gordon; and a daughter Barbara Gordon; her parents; brothers, Walter and Francis; sisters, Cecelia, Joyce, and Dorothy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 2nd, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Red Cliff. Father Kevin Gordon will officiate. Inurnment will be held in the spring at St. Francis Cemetery in Red Cliff.
Visitation and gathering of family and friends will take place after 5:00 PM Friday, March 1st at the Red Cliff Elderly Center in Red Cliff with a prayer service at 7 PM.
